What it is
Commercial auto covers vehicles your business owns or uses for work — liability for damage you cause, plus physical damage to the vehicles themselves.
Who needs it
- Contractors and trades with work trucks and vans
- Service businesses — plumbers, electricians, HVAC, landscapers
- Delivery, catering and mobile businesses
- Any company whose employees drive for work, even in their own cars (hired & non-owned auto)
Why a personal policy won't do it
Using a vehicle for business can void a personal auto claim. If a vehicle is titled to your business, used primarily for work, or in an accident during business use, a personal policy may deny it. Commercial auto exists precisely to cover what personal policies exclude.
How this differs from trucking coverage
This page is for business vehicles — vans, pickups, service trucks. If you're a for-hire motor carrier who needs federal filings (MC/DOT, BMC-91), that's a different product — see commercial auto liability for trucking. We write both; we'll point you to the right one.
What it covers
- Liability for injury and property damage you cause
- Physical damage — collision and comprehensive on your vehicles
- Hired & non-owned auto — for rented vehicles and employees' own cars used for work
- Uninsured motorist and medical payments
What we do
We match the coverage to how your vehicles are actually used, add hired & non-owned where employees drive their own cars, and shop it across carriers that specialize in your trade.
Let's get you covered.
Tell us what you need and we'll shop it across our carriers — or just ask a question first.
